What real app name scans show

Most naming advice is written from intuition. This page is written from scans. Every figure below is computed from full scans actually run through this tool — each one covering all 44App Store storefronts plus Google Play — so it describes what happens to real candidate names rather than what ought to.

How this sample is built

  • Only full scans are counted. Every scan in the sample covers the same storefront set, so a per-country rate always has the same denominator.
  • No name is ever stored in these aggregates. The counters record only outcomes — which storefronts came back with a conflict — never what was searched.
  • A storefront that errored or rate-limited is not counted as clean. Silence is excluded rather than treated as availability.
  • Rates are shares of scans, not of apps. "12% in Germany" means 12% of names people checked hit something in Germany, not that 12% of German apps conflict.

What counts as a conflict is defined precisely on the methodology page, including the similar-match threshold and its known false positives.

Not enough data yet

These aggregates began accruing on 2026-08-11 and currently cover 1 full scan. Figures are published once the sample reaches 250, because a conflict rate computed from fewer than that is noise, and putting a percent sign on noise would make this page worse than empty.

1 / 250 scans

In the meantime, the methodology documents exactly what will be measured, and the guides cover how to interpret a result you get today.

Limitations of this data

  • The sample is self-selected

These are names people chose to check, not a random draw from the space of app names. Names that felt risky enough to check are probably likelier to conflict than an arbitrary invented string.

  • It inherits every limitation of the matcher

A similar match here is whatever the 50% word-overlap rule calls a similar match, false positives included. The rates measure what the tool reports, which is not identical to what a careful human would call a conflict.

  • It grows, so the numbers move

Figures are recomputed from a counter that only ever increases, and are cached for an hour. Early figures will shift more than later ones; collection began 2026-08-11.

Check your own name against this

A rate tells you what happens on average. Whether it happens to your name takes about thirty seconds to find out.
